REQUESTING GOLD MAPS

GOLD MAP SPECIFICATIONS: The gold maps are large size and large scale. They are printed in three colors on both sides of the 25 by 38 inch sheet and folded to 4 1/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches. The scale is 1 to 250,000 (one inch equals about 4 miles). Each gold map is a composite of portions of several U.S. Geological Survey Topographic Map bases. For your benefit, contour lines are omitted so that details stand out clearly. You will see creeks, branches, dams, dry washes, mountains, canyons, national forests, primary and secondary roads, trails, power lines, and rural schools and churches. You can tell the direction of flow of every little creek and branch.

Georgia is a wonderful state for gold prospecting, gold panning, treasure hunting and rockhounding. There was a major gold rush in 1828 at Dahlonega, Georgia. Five hundred Georgia gold mines and prospecting sites are shown in 37 counties. The gold sites extend from south of Atlanta to the North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama state lines. Gold sites continue on the adjoining North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama gold maps.

One hundred forty gold mines and prospecting sites are shown in Alabama. Gold mining in Alabama began in the 1830's and the hobby of recreational gold prospecting and panning is enjoyed by many people today. A geological report states: “The Hilton Brothers reopened the pit. They succeeded in obtaining 65 ounces of gold from a hole 3 feet by 2 feet by 20 inches; the result of half a day’s work.” Gold sites continue on the adjoining Georgia map.
One hundred thirty gold mines and prospecting sites are shown in South Carolina. There were several operating gold mines in South Carolina in recent years. There are gold mines and prospecting and panning sites near Greenville, Spartanburg, Clemson, Ridgeway, McCormick, Newberry, Greenwood, Camden, York, Rock Hill, Lancaster and Pageland. Treasure hunters using metal detectors like to "gold nugget shoot" in the gold areas and "coin shoot" at the rural schools and churches shown.
